Google’s Android operating system has captured 70% market share in South Korea with 10 million phones running Android. South Korea’s smartphone base is estimated to be 14.1 million. iOS is the other dominant player in South Korea.
South Korea’s top mobile carriers have released their numbers and here’s how they look :
- SK Telecom Co : 6.18 million subscribers
- KT Corp : 2.06 million subscribers
- LG Uplus Corp : 1.86 million subscribers
Those are the three operators in South Korea serving a population of 48 million. South Korea enjoys a near 100% tele-density. Samsung, LG and Pantech are the top handset manufacturers followed by Motorola Mobility, Sony Ericsson and HTC.
Windows and Symbian are almost non-existent in the South Korean smartphone landscape. Other dominant player iOS’s sales figure’s aren’t released but KT Corp has sold 2.5 million iPhones till date.
