Microsoft after successfully signing agreements based on its patents, with Android manufacturers like HTC, Onkyo and few others is now getting a taste of its own medicine. It’s being sued by Ohio based Impulse Technology for a technology it uses in Kinect. Impulse Technology is seeking permanent injunction, damages and a whole lot of money. As per Impulse, Microsoft has infringed on 7 patents for its Xbox Kinect. The key technology being infringed is the “method of tracking and assessing movement skills in multidimensional spaces.”
Motion tracking technology is what makes Kinect, a hottest selling gaming gadget. Impulse has added eight game makers as defendants. Impulse has also accused EA, Sega and Konami for making games which violate Impulse’s patents.
Now Microsoft is too busy scouring through its 18131 patents and also patents of Impulse Technology to find out cross infringements for a settlement.
Looks like we will never get tired of these patent games. I so wish we had an app for this. Or at least a game.
