ICICI Bank has mobile banking facility for a while now. It has already released an iPhone app and an Android app. I have seen both the Android app and the iPhone app and they behave the same. The screenshots provided for this review are for iPhone app.
Once the ICICI Bank app is downloaded it needs the account number details and the mobile number registered with the account. Along with these details the app asks for a 4-digit pass code which is used for subsequent logins. Once logged, the screen has all the details regarding Bank accounts, Credit card, other accounts and Bill Pay. There is a menu option called iServices which basically provides additional details about the bank locations.
Bank account gives balance enquiry, last 5 transaction and a way to transfer funds. The fund transfer works perfectly. There is also facility to request cheque book and stop a cheque. The bank account option provides the necessary details needed for someone on the go. Clicking on the bank account typically doesn’t take to the account but yet another option pops up to choose the actual account number. This option is redundant because there is only one account registered and the app doesn’t let me add one more account.
Credit card details if linked to the banking account will also be displayed. Bill pay details if already linked are shown and bills can be paid. I haven’t tried the mShop feature as I’m not much of a shopper but I’m sure they work as they should. I have tried to book movie tickets from within the mShop and it works like a charm.
Whenever I log out of the app abruptly and log back in, it asks me for the pass code. Though this is a hygiene factor for a banking app, it is hard to not appreciate it. If you are using the most common pass codes then god help you, but if you are not, this is handy.
The only annoying thing I have found on the app is the placement of the buttons. In the picture about the Balance Enquiry has a red arrow at the end. The whole functionality works only when we touch on the red button. That red button unfortunately is placed right below the help file. My fingers aren’t fat but I have touched the help icon more than once. I cannot understand why the whole button isn’t touch sensitive. That’s what iPhone is for.
ICICI Bank smartphone app is a very functional app which is what I expect from a banking app. Fund transfers, stop cheques, balance checks and bill payments can be done gracefully.
