Remember Panda for Google Search? Remember how blogs and websites complain about the changes in search rankings when Panda is unleashed? A similar sentiment is flowing across Android app developers. This time, the search is in Android market.
The anger on the Android forums is partly financial – one developer said downloads had been cut 80 per cent since the change – and partly irritation at Google’s arrogance: the company hasn’t bothered to respond.
Of course there are few happy stories too. An app developer is rejoicing a surprise jump in its app rankings on search.
Mobile app developers have more than one problem to worry about. Discovery is the biggest problem of all. Android market is the top market for Android developers and a slightest change in search rankings will have great repercussions for app developer revenues. Android market is no Apple app store and developers have the choice of pulling their apps which isn’t always the best option.
