A Google Tablet : Now we are talking

Google is rumored to be working on a Nexus Tablet in collaboration with LG. This tablet could be part of Nexus series and will be a pure Google’s Android experience running Honeycomb as interpreted by PC World based on Eldar Murtazin’s comments.

My hunch : Google tablet will be powered by Ice Cream Sandwich. That’s where the differentiation starts. This is good news for the tablet and the Android world for various reasons.

First up : What took Google so long? I am sure Google has its reasons and may be it was waiting for Android to stabilize. After all, Ice Cream Sandwich, Android’s latest build is the most enchanting ever which is firmly putting the focus on user experience.

Google is being socialistic about choosing who will manufacture its devices. First it paired up with HTC. Then with Samsung. And now with LG. Not to forget the fact that Google bought Motorola in between and Motorola has its own tablet.

Will Google get the Android tablet right?

With the stunning iPad, functional Kindle Fire and umpteen Android tablets which are also-rans, Google has nice little doodle to make its tablet a blockbuster. If Google talks about an 8 MP camera, Dual core processor, IPS display and a Gorilla Glass, I would be mighty disappointed.

People don’t buy specs. People buy tablets. People buy experience.

Apple with its iPad and Amazon with its quasi-Android Kindle fire, has already shown Google how a tablet can be done. No other manufacturer has come close to producing half a decent tablet which can also sell. In fact, manufacturers like Dell, Acer and Asus are folding out from their Andriod tablet operations.

With Amazon taking the limelight for producing an Android tablet that sells and many manufacturers realizing that they don’t know how to do an Android tablet, it becomes all the more important for Google to get its tablet right.

All Google needed was a kick in the arse. Kindle Fire was that kick.
