Research In Motion is trying hard to set the Playbook sales in motion. In what looks like a desperate move to clear inventory and move on, RIM has slashed the Playbook prices by 50%. A 16 GB Blackberry Playbook is now available for Rs. 13490. It was Rs. 27990 before the drop. Blackberry Playbook (32GB) is now Rs. 15990 and Blackberry Playbook (64GB) is Rs. 24490.
From competing with iPad 2, Blackberry Playbook is now competing with Reliance 3G Tab, Beetel Magiq Glide and iBall Slide.
RIM is passing this price drop as a promotion and the offer is valid till December 31, 2011. I want to believe that story. I really do. It’s only that Playbook hasn’t been really that great worldwide and India is no country for tablets. At least not yet. Think of this as a Fire Sale. Just to jog your memory, RIM had a similar ‘promotion’ called Buy a tablet get a phone free.
As they say, water will find its own level. Has Playbook found its level yet? What do you think? Is it desirable now or should I say : Is it desirable now at least? Or you want RIM to let the consumers set the price.
