The cheaper siblings of Google Nexus series- Android One Phones, will be getting Android 5.0 Lollipop update by the end of January 2015.
The same was confirmed by Spice Mobility CEO, Prashant Bindal in this statement, “We plan to provide Lollipop in our Android One devices around January 2015 and the update will be available for all Dream UNO users in India.”
Other Android One phone manufacturers haven’t announced the Android Lollipop update plans yet. We know that these phones from Micromax, and Karbonn run on the same hardware as Spice Dream UNO and will be provided software updates by Google itself. So, it is hard to imagine that Micromax Canvas A1 and Karbonn Sparkle V won’t get Android 5.0 update via OTA by the same time.
Company insiders also mentioned that the Android update for these phones is ready and will be rolled out to Android One series starting mid December, 2014.
Please note that Android One phones are designed and maintained (software wise) by Google so all of them should receive future Android updates together.
All three of these Android One phones are sold in India with their price tag close to Rs. 6,000 (+-500 Rs.)
