I am not much of a refrigerator guy but this thing just blew me off. Godrej which is designing stuff by curiosity has something unusual for a refrigerator. It doesn’t have an extra door but it does have something extra. GodrejEdge SX MuziPlay is a refrigerator which will play FM music for you in the kitchen. GodrejEdge also has a mp3 player so if you just pop-in an USB stick, it will play your favorite music from the stick. You can also play music from your mobile phone. I presume the connectivity is via USB.
This is much better than having a touch screen for your microwave oven. We are entering into an exciting phase for consumer electronics. We got an AC by Onida which can be operated with a simple SMS. Now we have a refrigerator which can play some music. We got TV’s which can be used to access Internet. It is all leading to convergence. I am sure there is more to come.

I saw this on the paper yesterday. I understand the screen convergence – mobile, tv, computers, even the screenless radio.. But this just seems like they're trying to marry two distinct sets that have no intersection whatsoever. Who knows, I might be eating my words in a while, but I can't understand who would want this – someone who can afford a fridge certainly has a radio (or more than one) at home. And in a small kitchen country, this refrigerator-cum-radio might not even find place in the kitchen in most houses (so the concept of listening while you cook might not hold)..
