Ingenuous design always gets the much needed attention. The design should not necessarily attack a big problem. It can solve a solve problem like plugging the USB cable the wrong way and make a big difference. USB devices are ubiquitous. All the devices from computers to tablets we operate these days come with a USB slot. USB is good but there is one problem with it. Though the interface looks the same on both sides, the plug can be inserted in only one way. It needs precision. Until now.
This double USB plug design from Yanko Design, is trying to solve that problem. Now you can insert the plug in any which way and your computer’s usb slot is bound to accept it and recognize it. The new plug is designed with an extra stretchable padding which will allow this. When you are plugging it with side A on the top, then the padding on the Side B will squeeze in to make room and vice versa.
Mobile industry is getting its hands together to approve the micro USB as a standard charging platform. If they included this design as well, it would be a godsend. I know its a small thing but small things matter. They really do.
The ingenuousness of this design is targeting the cable and not the plug itself. This can only mean, whenever and whoever brings out these cables will have no problem in fitting them in many of the older devices.
The New York project of USB in a wall should start implementing this design.
