Alright, you ready for this. I am sure you are. Because you have already seen a similar charade. Remember the $35 tablet PC by the Indian HRD ministry? Yeah that kind of thing is back. But this time it’s coming from Wipro. $30 iPad seems possible as per Wipro. I know surprising. But you have to expect the unexpected from the unlikely corners. Funny thing about the so called $30 ‘iPad’ from Wipro is, actually the whole thing is funny, but the coverage it is getting. It is getting the coverage from Australia and the UK.
Quick question. What’s wrong with Indian media? Does a coverage in UK and Australia make the tablet, sorry ‘iPad’, more real than it already is?
Notion Ink toiled for few years to bring a world competing tablet. That costs money, you know real money you pay for engineering and manufacturing teams that brings out good products. Notion Ink didn’t try any cheap gimmicks. Yet the world media mocked, ringed scam-o-meters, and then gave the respect where it was due. This is with an incredible product. You can only imagine the plight of a $30 ‘iPad’ if and when it comes. Tata Motors talked about a 1 lakh rupee car and it brought it to market before anyone else did. 1 lakh car was outlandish claim by Tata back then. But Ratan Tata made a promise and kept it.
When it comes to cheap tablets a promise is not a promise. It’s a market gimmick.
We are losing credibility here gentlemen and ladies. Whenever we settle for some new and exciting tablet which costs few hundred dollars, a news pops up saying that someone somewhere is coming up with a really cheap tablet. Without deviation or thinking twice, the common theme or the target audience for these cheap tablets is the rural poor and schoolchildren. We know you care about the poor. But please stop sticking out carrots every now and then. This is no Ramayan and there are no elixirs. None exist.
Isn’t it surprising that all the cheap tablet news came from India? First was the $10 one, which turned out to be a electronic brick. Second was the $35 tablet from HRD which turned out to be a tablet which we will never see. And now this.
You know what, bring’em on. I will wait not just six months but twelve arduous months for you all. Bring those damn cheap tablets. Until then stop announcing stuff. Because it’s silly and I don’t really care. Neither do 99% of the folks out there who are reading this. When you really bring out a $30 iPad, I will shut up. I promise.
Why did I write, if I didn’t care? To tell you that I really don’t care. How else would you know.
And for god sake, stop saying iPad and iPad competitor. Anywhere between a hundred and a thousand different tablets were launched and not one, I repeat, not one came close to being anything iPadish.

That's a damn true statement you made SriRam. Govt. gimmicks are non stop and this tablet too might turn out to be another big scam under UPA's belt.
