iOS 5 is out for less than 24 hours and we already have a hack to get to it. The OS version is available for Apple’s developers and chosen few. For the rest of the folks this little hack can actually get your phone to iOS5. There are caveats. The hack is relatively straightforward. It might or might not work for you. I have tried with iPhone 3G S and it did not work. You might get lucky.
Gizmodo outlines this process :
- Download the IPSW file of iOS5. This is 620 MB file available for direct download or torrents.
- Update the iPhone by going to your iPhone sync screen and clicking on “Update” key by holding the Shift key for Windows and holding the Option key on Mac. This should give a pop-up to browse for the IPSW file. Select it and let it run the process.
- If you are lucky, the upgrade will happen and you will get a new activation screen.

Note : Please don’t try this if you are using your iPhone as your regular phone. I have almost bricked the phone and restored it back to 4.3. May be somethings are worth waiting.
