Search for restaurants, movies and events with Poynt smartphone app [iPhone & Android]

Local search is a gold mine. Sensing this Times Internet Limited of Times group has partnered with Poynt corporation to bring out a local search app called Poynt. The app is a simple search app which uses geo location to point you to restaurants, nightlife, movies and events. Data for the app is powered by TimesCity.com

Poynt app is a simple no nonsense app which does 1 thing – pointing you to the nearest place of interest. When you fire up the app, it takes your location to suggest nearest restaurants or movie places. Once the location is registered, the app provides 4 options – restaurants, movies, nightlife and events.

When the choice of Restaurants is selected it again provides just 3 options – find nearby restaurants, Cuisines and a search bar if you already know what you are looking for.
Other categories like movies, nightlife and events provide the same options. In case of movies, an option to pick a genre is provided.

A notable miss for the Movies section is browsing by language. In a city like Bangalore there at least 4-5 language movies playing at any point and a simple browsing based on language would have done wonders for this app. Yet another thing to look for future releases is a way to book tickets from the app itself.

The Nearby option works just fine for restaurants and movies as I have found them to be accurate. When a particular place of interest is selected the app will provide the phone number, map, directions, a way to share and a way to save it to the calendar.

Poynt is a neatly done app with a clean interface. A must have app for every smartphone.
