Google now activates 500,000 Android devices every day. Android guy, Andy Rubin revealed this information in his fifth ever tweet. Google was activating 300,000 devices every day only on 9 Dec 2010, which was revealed by one of Rubin’s tweet. Right now the growth rate is 4.4% week on week.
Android’s growth off late can be attributed to not just phones being churned out by the likes of HTC, Samsung, LG and Motorola. Honeycomb powered tablets are coming out just now which is adding to the Android tally. Tablets like HTC Flyer, Motorola Xoom are already launched with Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 waiting in the wings. Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the most awaited Android tablet and if it hits the sweet spot there’s no stopping Android’s growth.
To add to that is the low-cost mobile phone phenomenon. The cost of cheapest Android phone globally has gone down to as low as $126. The cheapest Android phone, Spice Mi270 was just announced. Though it sports a resistive touch screen, the cost factor and Android are just hard to beat combination.
This is one war Apple is better off not fighting. [AC]
