India’s cheapest tablet launched by C2K. Costs Rs. 6999!

Kolkata based C2K Communications will launch an entry level Android tablet for a cost of Rs. 6999 tablet. That would make the C2K tablet, cheapest tablet available in the Indian market, beating Wespro ePad. The tablet is a 7-inch device and is part of a product series  launch by C2K. Other two tablets might have a screen size of 10 inch and other features will also vary. The price of C2K’s expensive tablet is Rs. 25999.

The feature set on these three tablets include 1.3 to 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, 2GB memory in-built, USB port and SD card slot. How many of these are on-board for the cheapest tablet is not known. Other details like when and where these tablets will be available are not known too.

C2K looks like new entrant in the mobile handset business. Not much information is available on the company. With its range of tablets, C2K is using the tried and tested formula of targeting the right segments. At 6999, the lower end is targeted and at the higher end the top guns like Olivepad and iPad are targeted. If C2K’s tablet packs in the power needed, that is. And I am sure there will be mid-level tablet of which there isn’t much competition yet.

How low can the Tablet prices go? Indian government’s ambitious $35 tablet project’s status is not known to the public. Many believe there isn’t such a thing. May be there isn’t. But many Indian companies are racing to the bottom of the tablet price pyramid by sifting through many Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers for the cheapest tablet. Just like Micromax, Spice and Karbonn, entered the mobile handset game with pre-built designs, the tablet wannabes are using the same strategy. There will be a lot more cheap tablets coming our way.
