Selfies have become a trend these days. Almost everyone likes taking selfies these days. Be it kids, teenagers, middle-aged people, and even the elderly. Everyone loves clicking selfies.
However, clicking a great selfie is not easy as it sounds. Unless you’re very photogenic many of the selfies that you take randomly will come out to be unusable and not fit for posting on social media networks.
So, if you want your selfies to get several likes and thumbs-up on social networks, then follow these 7 amazing tips for taking great selfies:
-
Strike A Pose
Nobody would want to see a photo of yours with a straight face in your normal stance. So you need to add some spices to your selfies by striking a pose. You can give intense looks, show different kinds of smiles, or can give show your puzzled face.
You can also try something new and outrageous and see if it makes your selfie stands out from the rest.
2. It Is All About The Angles
Do not take a selfie with your phone held at eye level. Just don’t. It looks uncool. Instead, try holding the phone at any angle above your head and select the angle that gives better selfie shots.
Also keep on experimenting with new angles of holding the phone and try extending your neck forward, tilting your head, etc. Who knows what might give you a new great selfie worth thousands of likes?
3. Focus on What You Want To Show Off
This tip is very important if you want to show off your new haircut, lipstick, eyes, and accessories. Also ensure that the camera doesn’t focus too much on anything that you don’t want the world to pay attention to.
After you click that selfie, you can also use various image retouching apps for applying various kinds of effects and add highlights to the object you want to show-off.
4. Mind the Lighting And Keep It Still
Never ignore the ambient lighting if you want to capture a great selfie. No editing app can correct and make a selfie look good if it was captured in very low, little, or harsh lighting conditions.
So when you click your next selfie, mind the lighting conditions. Don’t take a selfie with the source of light in the background. And as far as possible take selfies in the natural light. You can stand near the window, balcony, or even in the park for capturing a lovely selfie.
Golden sun rays during dusk and dawn can also be used for shooting great selfies.
Another important tip is to keep your camera still while taking a selfie. I’d also advise you to keep your phone still for a fraction of a second even after clicking the selfie, if you have an old phone.
5. Adjust The Beautification Mode
Have you seen selfies of your friends on social networks where their skin looks like plastic? I bet you do.
This is caused by extreme processing done by the beautification mode in the camera app that we use for making our skin tone look even and blemish free. All you need to do is reduce the level of beautify mode till you see a natural looking yet smooth skin.
6. The Background Is Equally Important
Who said that a selfie is all about the subject?
A selfie is a photo of self taken by a person himself. So when you click a photo of your feet showing-off your newly bought footwear, it would also be classified as a selfie.
But can you get rid of the background completely in a selfie?
No.
It is very important to choose a good and attractive background scene while clicking a selfie.
If you are clicking a selfie in your home, then make sure to cut out that mess in your room.
Also ensure that nobody else comes into the frame and spoil your otherwise perfect selfie.
However, sometimes these photo bombers can actually make your photo look a lot better if you just let them adjust themselves in the frame.
7. Try The Rear Camera
Most of the phones have a lot better rear camera than the front selfie cam in terms of images quality and resolution. So if you want to take a great selfie for printing it out on a large sheet of paper, just want to have better colors and exposure in the selfie, then you should try shooting with your rear camera.
At first, you might not be able to set a perfect frame for the selfie but you will learn to take good selfies with the rear camera with practice.
The Mirror Trick- This is especially useful if your phone doesn’t have a front camera for taking selfies. So what you can do is stand in front of the mirror in a brightly lit room, face your phone’s camera towards the mirror, adjust the frame for cropping out unwanted objects and click. That’s it.
I usually don’t recommend this method, as your phone will also be there in the selfie, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Now you know some of the best tips and tricks for taking a great selfie. Happy shooting!
