If you can’t get enough of your TV and would like to take the saas and bahu along with you then you need to buy the new Slingbox from Slingmedia. Slingbox will sit somewhere in between your television and your cable or DTH. There is an Internet connection which Slingbox should be connected to and once connected, you can watch your TV shows from anywhere in the world with Internet connected device.
Price and Logistics
Sounds simple. Slingbox comes at a price of Rs. 7999. Slingbox PRO-HD which is for high definition experience comes at Rs.14999. If you throw in Rs. 4999 more, Slingmedia will provide a SlingLink which will simplify the home internet connection and provides smooth playback. Sounds like the infant vaccinations that are flooding the market. “If you don’t want fever after this vaccine then it costs Rs. 2000 and if you want fever then it is Rs. 600.” Sling is saying something similar : “If you want a smooth playback then it is Rs. 13000 and if you want a blurry and jaded images then it is Rs. 8000”. I guess wrong interpretation of differential pricing.
Slingbox 120 is available from Croma, Reliance Digital and Flipkart.
Slingbox app is available for iPhone and Android and costs $29.99.
Slingbox+Slinglink+Slingapp : Very expensive affair to watch Chota Bheem and Indian idol.
Who needs it?
Few things aren’t very clear. How do you access the TV shows on a Internet enabled computer. Will there be a url I can go to? Should the television at my home be always on for me to watch the tv or should I just run on the DTH receiver and the Slingbox? These questions have to be answered before we venture into new gadget types like Slingbox. Yet another thought which comes to my mind is, who wants to watch tv when you are away? May be there is a reason why you are away. Does Indian media have such compelling content to spend Rs 15000? I am sure Burkha Dutt cutting people off and Arnab Goswami interpreting things wrongly isn’t very compelling. May be you had Valthaty in your mind. But isn’t IPL being streamed live on the Internet?
I am sorry. I still don’t get Slingbox.
PS : Slingmedia should have named it Slinga to cash in on the Malinga craze. Just a thought.
