Nokia Lumia 800, a Nokia phone powered by Windows, has generated quite a buzz. So much so that it figures in the top Google searches from India when the nation is too busy bashing Kapil Sibal, devouring Silk Smitha and singing Kolaveri Di. So what’s the price of this buzzing new Nokia phone?
Nokia doesn’t yet reveal it. Flipkart which is usually quick on these sorts of things has been a laggard with Lumia 800. All it has is a landing page without any price. The price is speculated to be in the sub-30K range. And to put an exact number we are hearing two prices strongly Rs. 29000 and Rs. 29999.
Is that expensive?
3 reasons why Nokia Lumia 800 is not expensive :
- Falling rupee has made matters worse for imports. Since most mobile phones are imported, they have been the first to be affected.
- Price of two recent phones launched – HTC Sensation XL and iPhone 4S – have defined what expensive really means. By those standards Nokia Lumia 800 is 10K less than expensive.
- Third and the most important one: Unlike Apple and HTC, Nokia knows India well.
Apple is too uptight with its pricing and strategy and doesn’t have enough products to cover Indian consumer base. HTC isn’t as uptight as Apple is but it still plays at the top end of the spectrum. HTC doesn’t yet have a phone in the sub-10K range.
On the contrary, Nokia knows a thing or two about India. It has a wide range of selection starting from its grass roots phones in Nokia 100 and Nokia 101 to the now expensive Lumia 800.
Whatever the price of Nokia Lumia 800 is, I will take Nokia’s word for it. In Nokia, we trust.
