We have witnessed just too many tablet launches recently in the ‘budget tablet’ segment. Now Indian Brand Karbonn has come out with yet another one from its kitty. The company launched a new tablet called the ‘Smart Tab 2’. Strangely, Karbonn Mobiles had launched a phone named Karbonn Smart Tab 1 on the 3rd of this month with almost similar features and pricing. This move of the company looks perplexing.
The Karbonn Smart Tab 2 runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and is claimed to be upgradable to Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It runs on a 1.2 GHz XBurst processor and houses 512 MB of RAM. It comes with an internal memory of 4 GB (of which only 1 GB is available to the user) which is later expandable to 32 GB. The Smartphone is powered by a 3700 mAh battery which is claimed to give it a battery backup worth 25 hours of music playback and 8 hours of video play.
The tablet, priced at Rs. 7,990 is currently available only on Snapdeal for a price of Rs. 6,990. It has a large 7” capacitive multi-touch screen with a resolution of 400×480. The tab can playback videos at 1080p (HD). The user is also facilitated with a HDMI port. It also has a 2 MP front camera to enable the users of the phone for video chat.
The connectivity options for this phone include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can also access 3G networks by connecting a 3G dongle in the USB port of the phone. Thanks to the manufacturers, the phone comes enabled with the Google Play Store which lets users download applications of their choice. This would largely help those users which want their phones to be customized and need a range of different applications.
Considering the features of the phone, it is not priced too heavily. But what could harm the Smartphone’s sales is the reputation of manufacturers.
We all know that Karbonn mobiles have an ill reputation when it comes to after sales service. If the company wants to revive its customer base and expand into new markets, it would have to improve their customer service, establish new customer service centers besides launching more products that can challenge the competition.
