Belkin has released its Power Pack, a mobile charging dock in India. There are 3 variants which are available and the price ranges from Rs. 1999 to Rs. 4799. Belkin Powerpack allows simultaneous charging of two devices.
Belkin PowerPack holds the charge for many months and will lose just 5% charge every month, that is of course if you completely forget about it and don’t bother to charge.
How does it work
Belkin PowerPack provides a USB to micro USB converter cable for charging your phones. The PowerPack itself has to be charged via AC adapter. The highest grade of Power Pack which gives 4000 mAh power can charge 4 cell phones, 2 smartphones or it can give a tablet boost.
On a really long trip away from the connected world, you would need to first find an outlet to charge the Power Pack.
Not for all devices
Belkin PowerPack works with a microUSB, rendering it useless for phones which don’t support micro USB. At least the iPhone and quite a few tablets are out of the picture. Now that the phone world has agreed to an universal charger and micro USB could be the interface.
Available Models
There are 3 models available.
- Power Pac 1000 – Useful for regular cell phones. Allows one cell phone charge or a smartphone boost
- Power Pack 2000 – Useful for smartphones.
- Power Pack 4000 – Useful for smartphones and tablets. Allows 4 full cell phone charges, 2 smartphone charges or a tablet boost.
Few unknowns
Few things are not yet certain on the Power Pack. The weight which is an important factor is not available. Most importantly how long does it take to charge the Power Pack isn’t available either. If the Power Pack can charge itself real fast then I can think of adding this to my travel bag.
If you have a whole bunch of micro USB enabled devices then, Belkin PowerPack is a must have accessory. Buy it and drop it in your backpack.
