HP’s I-am-an-enterprise-software-guy CEO has announced that HP’s PC business is a burning platform, cut the cord on the PC business (tablets and smartphones), set a fire ale for TouchPad and bought an enterprise software company for $10 bn. If that’s a mouthful, imagine what was the reaction when it all happened in the span of 2 hours. However, what happened next was even incredible.
After HP has slashed the price of TouchPad to $99, the pads were flying off from the shelves of Best Buy and Walmart and they are now out of stock. Though HP is losing money on every tablet it is selling, HP wants to get out of it as quick as it can. Now HP Touchpads are hard to find. A slickdeals thread can still give a glimmer of hope for those wanting their hands on the cheapest tablet.
If the $99 price tag itself isn’t compelling enough for you to make the purchase, then I will give you one more reason : Android. Anything Android is hot right now and I’m sure the sound of Android will pull in crowds.
A project was started to port Android to HP Touchpad. The end result is still some time away, it would probably enough for you get over the honeymoon period with the webOS. I’m sure installing Android on the Touchpad will not be as easy as typing “How to install Android on HP Touchpad” and it is will also be not for the faint hearted.
Android might run on HP Touchpad : Do you need one more reason to buy?
