Foxconn, the company that makes Apple iPad and probably Amazon’s new tablet is ‘hiring’ 1 million robots to replace humans. Foxconn currently employs 1.2 million people and 10,000 robots. The company plans to increase this number to 300,000 and make it a full million in 3 years.
The robots in Foxconn factories will be employed on simple jobs like spraying, welding and assembling. It’s not clear how many people will be replaced with the rising robots count but, it would be significant.
Taiwanese technology giant Foxconn will replace some of its workers with 1 million robots in three years to cut rising labor expenses and improve efficiency, said Terry Gou, founder and chairman of the company, late Friday. (Source)
More than efficiency and labor expenses, robots would be beneficial in one area of concern to Foxconn. They can’t commit suicides.
