Yes, we have another one in the mix – A powerful triple core 1.2 GHz tablet for under 10,000 rupees. The tablet pricing are really falling and falling fast. According to the press release sent to us, the Mercury mTab high speed 3 core processor is accompanied by Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and 512MB RAM along with a 4GB inbuilt storage.
Now, before you ask me about these 3 core processors – Here is what it is. It has 3 cores, one which is normal CPU, the other core is a dedicated Video processing core and the there is GPU, basically a graphic processing core.
Rest of the Mercury mTab specs are what we expect from today’s tablets –
Mercury mTab important Specs
- A 3 core 1.3 GHz Processor (CPU + GPU + VPU)
- 512MB RAM along with a 4GB inbuilt storage.
- 7” WVGA TFT LCD Capacitive screen
- G-Sensor support
- Android 2.3 Gingerbread
- External 3G support
- 400 grams weight
The last point is interesting – it does not have a dedicated 3G support, but will support a 3G / EVO dongle to be connected externally basically via USB.
For me not having a inbuilt support for 3G is surely a deal breaker. No one wants to carry dongles now a days – The support HAS to be inbuilt. Another important aspect that the press release does not mention is the battery capacity.
One of key aspects for success of a tablet is how long does the battery last – most of these tablets do not have sufficient battery backup, which becomes increasingly frustrating for users.
Having said that a sub 10k price point is quite a decent one for Mercury mTab. We will try to get our hands on this device and do a video review if possible – till then stay tuned.
