You just got one more reason to buy that iPad. A thousand books from British library just went free on iPad. These books are from 19th century ranging from novels and poetry to scientific books. This offer is valid for iPad only, and there are plans for releasing this for iPad’s poorer cousins -  Kindle and Android tablets. Whether you want to know History of Europe or Geography of Asia this iPad app is a must.

Book geeks have a lot of options these days with millions of books being available for free on public domains. All you have to buy is an iPad or Kindle. Reading material which will last a lifetime is already freely available. British Library collection is a jewel in the free books crown.

The books are available in high resolution which will allow you to enjoy 19th century classics vicariously. With the app you can search, browse, read commentary, view images of original maps, create favorite title lists and download books for offline reading. Shakespeare’s Land, French Revolution Readings, History of Colonial North America, The History of a Lump of Chalk, Business and Pleasure in Brazil, How to get rich in California are some of the titles. Check this curated list. Treasures is British Library’s previous app which has 100 key British library collection items across all eras. It’s a paid app for $3.99.
