Is it a gimmick? Is it a electronic brick? What is it? Let’s just say that it’s a super cheap tablet powered by Android’s latest Ice Cream Sandwich. Launched by MIPS Technologies in China, MIPS tablet costs just $99, comes with a 7-inch capacitive touch screen, 1 GHz processor and whole lot of goodness.
We have seen quite a few cheap tablets. It started with $35 Aakash tablet, then the $75 tablet from BEL which isn’t really for retail consumption. We have also seen a fire sale of HP’s Touchpad for $99 and then there is the $99 Noteslate. All the cheap tablets we have seen so far have their own limitations in one way or the other.
MIPS Tablet seems to be the only viable cheap tablet available out there as we all know Aakash is very far for retail consumption and HP’s Touchpad is no longer available.
MIPS Tablet has pulled a trick which every other cheap tablet maker/launcher has missed. It loaded the tablet with the latest Android OS. In this case, it’s the super latest. You can’t get better than the Ice Cream Sandwich.
The tablet is available only in China.
