The key to any advertisement is to get everyone talk about it. Some ads do that very well. Micromax’s new ad falls in that category. It takes some imagination to do this in just 20 seconds. Be it ‘character assassination’ of a ‘convicted rapist’
Micromax has used actor Shiney Ahuja to display its Diwali love for us. In this new ad, Shiney presents Micromax’s Bling mobile phones to his wife, friend of his wife and also a maid.
Wife : Look Shiney has bought be a new Bling.
Wife’s friend : He bought me one two
Maid : Kya Saab ne Leke diyan ham ko.”
That sums up the conversation between the three ladies.
Character assassination
Now Shiney is awfully pissed at this ad and has filed a lawsuit against Micromax for wilful character assassination.
Now I’m confused. How is this character assassination? If anything this is a character enhancement which displays a completely different image for Shiney than what he is currently defending himself in the courts for. If anything, the character in this ad is a philanderer and not a rapist.
Isn’t that a better perspective?
And of course, the ad everyone’s talking about is below :
The Shiney perspective
From Shiney’s perspective, he’s got a case. If Shiney was just a name Micromax used in its ad, it could have gotten away. Micromax didn’t stop at that. It used a picture of a person who has an uncanny resemblance with Shiney Ahuja.
That’s a screenshot from the ad. Doesn’t the Shiney in the picture look like the Shiney we know?
PS : Aah! I never thought I would write about Shiney Ahuja. Damn! you Micromax. Now can I file a suit too? I don’t know. Under some obscure section.
