Samsung, the Korean company, might be crowned as the smartphone king, thanks to its shipments in Q3 2011. Apple and Nokia have revealed their numbers and now all fingers and estimates are pointing towards Samsung. As per the estimates, Samsung should beat Apple and Nokia, in smartphone shipments.
Apple has released its earnings two days before and it has shipped 17.1 million smartphones in Q3 2011. Nokia has shipped 16.8 million smartphones. As per the estimates, Samsung should have shipped more than 20 million smartphones in Q3 2011.
Now these are all estimates, and in all likelihood they will come true. But there was a time when the estimates go wrong. It happened last quarter.
What happened last quarter?
Everybody was ready to crown Samsung as the new smartphone king. But Apple has blindsided Samsung to rein the top spot. In Q2 2011, Apple shipped 20.3 million smartphones and Samsung has shipped 19.2 million smartphones.
Samsung lost it by a million shipments.
Given Apple’s 17.1 million shipments in Q3, we can safely assume that Samsung would beat that number. Samsung just has to keep up with its Q2 shipments, that’s all.
Get ready to anoint Samsung as the new smartphone king.
