Micromax which has been dormant for a while is back in style. It has launched Micromax X50, a shock proof, dust proof and water proof phone. In other words, a perfect phone for Indian conditions. Micromax X50 is priced at Rs. 5000.
While the proofs (Shock+water+dust) are obviously the most attractive features on X50, Micromax didn’t stop at that. There’s a pedometer, Barometer, UV detection and thermometer on board. Now I’m not sure how true this is, because X50 only costs Rs. 5000 and all these meters usually don’t come for phones of this price.
Micromax X50 sports a 2.4 inch TFT display with 240.x320 screen resolution, 2 MP camera, FM radio, music player, and 28 MB internal memory which can be expandable to 16 GB. X50 has EDGE and Bluetooth as connectivity options. It also has GPS navigation and call recording features.
Micromax X50 is powered by 900 mAh battery which provides 3.5 hours of talk time and 270 hours of standby time. Now this is a downer for me because the audience which prefers this phone certainly use it under extreme conditions and not having power to charge up is not even an extreme condition in India.
X50 isn’t alone in this category. We have seen quite a few rugged phones (Motorola Defy, iBall floater, Sony Ericsson Xperia Active) and none of the phones provide a superior battery performance. May be that’s the limitation for bringing a rugged phone.
Battery life aside, Micromax X50 seems to be a too good to be true phone. What do you think?
