Katango which started as an iPhone app focusing on grouping your Facebook friends into circles is acquired by Google. Katango team and the technology behind it will now be part of Google+ team.
Katango shot to fame when it launched its iPhone app right after Google+ was released. At that time the concept of circles and the privacy that comes along with it were new to the world and Facebook. Katango chose to bring the concept of circles to Facebook.
Unlike Google+ circles where all the heavy loading is done by the user, Katango has an algorithm to put your Facebook friends into circles based on your social interactions. And when Katango places your friends into various circles you would be amazed at the results.
Since Katango started out as a iPhone app for Facebook it was a logical acquisition target for Facebook. But Google has its own plans.
Will Katango be the intelligence behind Google+ Or would it be another casualty to Larry Page’s new found Zen to cut the crap. Let’s wait and see.
