Nokia is serious about the next billion when it launched Nokia X1-00 phone. There is a huge opportunity there as much or much bigger than what we have at the top of the end in the smartphones. While it is hard for Apple’s and Blackberry’s to target the lower end of the spectrum, for Nokia it is what it does and it is part of the strategy. Good for Nokia and good for the next billion.
Here’s the infographic from Nokia. You can guess where Nokia will put most of their money in :
Of all the smartphones and web-enabled phones – only 14% of the world’s population regularly use their phone to access the Internet. On the existing stats 6% is yet to use Internet on their mobile phone. A scope for growth and a scope to sell services.
46% of the world population do not own a mobile phone. The good news is more than half the world has mobile phones and that is a very encouraging statistic. More people use text messaging than Internet on their mobile phones. And text messaging should be available to 54% of the world population. A lot of scope there too.
Looking at the graphic, all you can see is opportunity. 22% of the web-enabled phone population, scope is there to upgrade and move on to a better phone, if they haven’t already. A basic mobile phone can be sold to 46% of the population. A huge opportunity targeting 3.2 billion people.
As they say, stats are like bikinis. So what are these numbers hiding? What are we missing?

Is is very surprising that 46% of the world's population don't use mobile phones even after so much of development in mobile industry .
