Tada! Android is a money spinner for Microsoft and if all goes well in the legal department, Microsoft will be making a whole lot more. If that doesn’t shock you enough, get this : Microsoft is making more money from Android phones than from its own Windows phones. Here’s how it is happening.
HTC has signed a patent agreement with Microsoft and as per that HTC will pay $5 per to Microsoft for every Android device sold. HTC has shipped 30 million Android devices so far, fetching $150 million in revenues to Microsoft. Microsoft got $30 million from its 2 million windows phones shipped. That is a $15 licensing fee per device. Best part for Microsoft is, it’s not done. It has sued almost all top companies selling Android phones. Whenever that kicks in, Microsoft will be laughing all the way to the bank.
Isn’t that the coolest thing that could ever happen to a company which has no clue about its future. You might not realize it but, Microsoft is already winning the mobile game.
Here’s a tip for a tech company : Your engineering team might be weak, don’t fret about it. Make sure you really have a strong legal team.
Why did HTC sign a patent agreement with Microsoft? What does it say exactly? Any clues?
