DryerBro is the new app on the anvil which is using iPhone’s accelerometer to let you know that the laundry is done. The iPhone has to be prominently placed on the dryer and the app will send out a text or make a call to let you know that the laundry is done. Multiple numbers can be configured, so that a whole group can know that the laundry is done. No this is not another social feature but to keep the people informed so that they know their turn’s next. Is this the home automation Google was talking about at the I/O?
This, for now, looks like a hack to solve a specific purpose and the creator was trying to solve a specific problem of living with 11 dudes. DyerBro is a blue ocean strategy as per Eric Kerr, the creator. He also talks about $41 million funding for a hyper-local group buying ad platform for laundry detergents. I am not saying it sounds crazy, but let me know if it sounds any different.
My reservations with the app :
- May be it is far fetched because, not everyone lives with 11 dudes.
- If you place your iPhone on the dryer, and Twilio sends out a text, where will you read? The assumption here is access to multiple devices. Kind of self-defeating. Don’t you think.
- If it is public Laundromat and you leave your iPhone, sure your friends will be getting the message but you have to look for a new phone. Probably an Android.
Try out the app if you are living with dudes or gals. See if it works for you. What are you waiting bro?
