Spice and not Micromax was the first to announce a dual SIM Android phone. Spice MI 270 is a dual SIM Android phone from Spice which is priced at Rs. 9000. MI 270 joins the ranks of MI 300 and MI 310, Spice’s other Android phones. At Rs. 9000 Spice MI 270 will be an interesting proposition. There’s no news on whether this is 2G+3G dual SIM or 3G+3G dual SIM. My guess is this would be a 2G+3G dual SIM, as 3G+3G doesn’t make any sense right now.
Specifications
Spice MI 270 is Android 2.1 powered smartphone with Mediatek’s 600 MHz processor (what else). MI 270 has a 3.7 inch capacitive touch screen, 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS and A-GPS. Feature packed phone for a price of Rs. 9000.
Nice : A 3.7 inch capacitive touch screen is something rarely seen for a phone in this price range.
Six months back, to get a phone with similar features the cost is in the range of Rs. 13000 to Rs. 18000. The prices are falling like cards.
Dampeners
- Android 2.1 : Oh! for crying out loud, load something latest. Will ya!
- 3.7 inch capacitive touch screen looks hot but it has to draw its powers from a 600 MHz processor. Typical 3.7 inch phones come with a faster processor. Though this looks like a neat feature, MI 270 shouldn’t have gone beyond 3.2 inch screen.
There is a pent up demand for dual SIM phones in general. And looking the search terms used to reach TGF, the demand has spilled into Android phones as well. Spice MI270 will be the first Android phone with Dual SIM capabilities. It is also the first dual SIM touch screen phones. Two other phones Spice QT95 and Spice QT 68 were released which had 2G+3G capabilities.
PS : Ironically, Micromax A70 is priced at Rs. 9000 and almost has the same features, sans the dual SIM capability. Will Micromax pull A70’s price down?
