Times of India iPhone app [review]

Times of India has arrived on the mobile app scene with a bang. It has released apps for iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry. I have never seen such a comprehensive mobile app launch. We have reviewed the iPhone app and it’s a swell. The loading time is fast, font readable and easily navigable. TOI is a little late in launching its app as its peers IBN Live, NDTV, Hindu and Hindustan Times have all launched their apps much earlier.

Review

The app is developed by Robosoft Technologies and Robosoft has done a very good job. If you have seen quite a few apps and quite a few news apps then TOI app feels like home. It did not go gung ho with the colors and stuck to the standard mobile app layout.

The app opens up with home screen containing Latest and Trending topics at the top. At the bottom we have Home, Photos, Videos, Favorites and More. Home screen is neatly designed with a nice ticket at the top right corner scrolling with Nifty, Sensex and Gold indices.

                            

Photos and Videos

If you are regular reader of TOI then you know how much masala it carries. The app hasn’t lost none of it. The photos and videos section is full of masala glittering with celebs and leaked mms’s. Top video of the day is Afridi’s daughter talk after Pakistan lost its match against India. And of course, Aamir Khan with his mush and wife has been an eyesore. Videos played decently on WiFi

        

After you go into any article and if by luck you like it you can favorite it and the article will be tucked into the favorites section.

                            

Other sections

More menu item will lead to more options. This will have sub sections for specific or niche interest.

Verdict

TOI iPhone app is a well designed app with the right colors on board. One cannot go wrong with white and blue and a bit of black. It did not get fancy with a red color which is a welcome relief. A must download app for news geeks.
