Samsung, the Korean company, is now crowned as the new smartphone king, displacing Apple. Samsung shipped a whopping 27.8 million smartphones in Q3 2011. As per Samsung Q4 would be even better.
Apple has already released its earnings and it has shipped 17.1 million smartphones in Q3 2011. Nokia has shipped 16.8 million smartphones.
There’s a 44% jump in shipments of Samsung’s smartphones from last quarter. It has shipped 19.2 million smartphones in Q2 2011. A total of 116 million smartphones were shipped in Q3 2011 and Samsung holds a 23.8% global smartphone share. Apple holds 15% share.
Samsung and Apple which are partners on one side, are battling some major patent lawsuits. Given this rivalry, co-competition and collaboration, both Samsung and Apple are tied up for an exciting fourth quarter.
iPhone 4S vs Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Q4 will be a stand off between iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S2 and the new Ice Cream Sandwich powered Samsung Galaxy Nexus. iPhone 4S is already receiving rave reviews and have seen huge bookings in the first few weeks of its launch.
While a similar feat might not be possible for Samsung Galaxy Nexus, it will not be far behind, thanks to Android’s new found customer focus and Google’s enthusiasm to make it enchanting.
Android as an mobile operating system has graduated and Ice Cream Sandwich launch was its graduation ceremony. For a change, Android is enchanting which should pose new problems to iPhone 4S which is riding high on its new LSD, Siri.
