Samsung which is aggressively promoting Galaxy Note as an in-between device which is desirable for content creators has shipped 1 million devices are already. Galaxy Note is available in India for the price of Rs. 32250. Galaxy Note will soon enter the US where its real success will be measured.
SammyHub reports that 1 million Galaxy Note’s were shipped, which means those number of devices have left Samsung’s factories and entered into the channel. It doesn’t necessarily translate to sales. Read my earlier post : Units shipped != Units Sold.
Even if 1 million Galaxy Note’s are not yet sold, I assume a good percentage of them are sold, which is still an impressive number. Can’t call it a success until we see the sales number but Samsung has done what Dell couldn’t. Samsung created buzz about its 5.3 inch device. Samsung has positioned the device with a confusion : Is it a tablet or is it a phone? Galaxy Note which comes with a stylus is just that : too big for a phone and too small for a tablet.
Having played with the phone for 15 minutes, I have found the phone to be extremely thin and liked what I saw. My only grouse about Galaxy Note was its USP – width. My hands aren’t big enough to complete normal operations which I would have done on a 3.5 inch screen. May be best practices will emerge and may be people will get used to it.
How do you feel about holding a 5.3 inch device with one hand? Do you think Samsung created a new category?
