There is no easy way to compare things. That’s when we resort to data and numbers. Price to start with, screen type, processor speed, memory on-board, RAM, camera and then we finally move on to other features which set a particular phone apart. All the four phones are perfectly good phones. This comparison is to put out some facts and see how they fare against it.
Why these four?
There are a total of 16 Android phones in the price range of 10K-15K range, launched so far. Of these, with every other spec being equal, there are 6 phones with 5 megapixel camera and the rest are split between 2 and 3 megapixel cameras. LG Optimus One and Motorola Quench XT3, which are perfectly good phones are left out of this as they have a 3 megapixel camera. That leaves us with LG GW620, HTC WildFire , Videocon Zeus V7500, Spice Mi300, Samsung Galaxy i7500, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and Motorola Quench XT5. Of these six, Spice Mi300 did not have a FM radio and Samsung Galaxy i7500 is out of stock. LG GW620 is a touch + QWERTY which puts it in a different class.
Price
Videocon Zeus has the lowest price of these four phones. It is priced at Rs. 10999. Next comes Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini – Rs. 12899, Motorola Quench XT5 – Rs. 13990 and HTC Wildfire – Rs.14749.
Touch screen, Screen size, Processor and Android version
There is hardly any difference in this category. All the four phones come with a capacitive touch screen with a screen size of 3.2 inches, except one. Xperia X10 Mini has a screen size of 2.8 inch. Three of the four run a 600 MHz Qualcomm processor, only differing in the models. HTC Wildfire runs a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor. HTC Wildfire and Motorola Quench XT5 run Android 2.1 Xperia Mini X10 runs Android 1.6, so does Videocon Zeus but it can be upgraded to 2.1.
Screen resolution of older phones (Wildfire and Xperia) is 240×320 and recently launched phones – Zeus and XT5 – have it at 320×480.
RAM and Memory
All four phones can read microSD cards up to 16 GB or 32 GB. Internal memory ranges from 128 MB to 512 MB. RAM varies on all these phones. HTC Wildfire has a RAM of 384 MB, Videocon Zeus – 512 MB and Motorola Quench XT5 has 256 MB RAM. Xperia’s RAM isn’t immediately available.
Battery life
HTC Wildfire provides the maximum talk time of 7 hours 20 minutes. Xperia Mini X10 provides the least talk time of 3.5 hours. Quench XT5 provides 6.5 hours and Zeus provides 7 hours of talk time. Standby time ranges from 15 days to 29 days.
Others
All are single SIM 3G phones with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM Radio, music player, video player and video recorder.
Verdict
In all comparison categories, one phone had nothing to be pointed out. It’s Videocon Zeus. It is the cheapest phone in the list too. Though a tad expensive, HTC Wildfire comes in second with Motorola Quench XT5 at third and Xperia Mini X10 at the fourth.
HTC Wildfire – Slower processor and higher cost.
Quench XT5 – Nothing to be pointed out but nothing stands out.
Xperia Mini X10 – Smaller screen (2.8 inch) and low battery life (3.5 hours)
Videocon Zeus – All good. Looks are nothing to die for.
Videocon Zeus, is a feature rich phone at the same time it’s a value for money phone. A hands-on on this device might change my opinion, until then, Zeus rules.
Note : This comparison is not a buying recommendation. The prices are subjective and will vary.
