Amazon not content with its Android fork is shopping for WebOS. Samsung has backed out and HTC is still thinking, leaving Amazon to grab Palm. In all likelihood Amazon will buy Palm and WebOS. If and when that happens, the mobile game and tech industry dynamics will change one more time.
Amazon is riding high on its online retail and cloud infrastructure success. Kindle has been its darling to sell books. And with its launch of a phalanx of Kindle eReaders and a tablet, Amazon’s arrival was duly noted.
Amazon got some great thing going. While everyone are too busy selling, Amazon was too busy building. Once you have built an online empire with infrastructure, content and conduit, how hard it is to sell? A strategy which needs patience and vision. Come to think of it, Amazon might be a better visionary than Apple.
With Amazon’s Silk browser (also gets into owning the social graph) and an integrated WebOS, Amazon has the potential to lead the industry. Now Apple has a thing or two to worry.
