Smartphones have become an integral part of our life and we invest a lot of money into your new smartphone thinking it will last for a couple of years. But, what if your phone gets broken or shattered just a day after you purchase it? It might happen due to several reasons and that is why you should read this guide to protect your phone from accidental drops.
Prevention is better than cure…
Here are 4 few preventive actions that you should take to prevent your phone from getting damaged accidentally:
1. Use Belt Clips & Arm Bands
Phones suffer maximum number of accidents due to our carelessness. We drop our phone while taking it out from the trousers pockets, and shirt pockets. In rare cases, we actually sit on them. So, it would be better if you can invest some money into purchasing high-quality belt clips and arm bands. Arm bands are especially useful during jogging, trekking, etc.
2. Don’t take your phone to the bathroom
You might have laughed at a lot of people for dropping their phones in the toilets. It might happen to you too. Do not take your phone to the toilet, and guys please do not read on the phone while urinating. You never know when you’ll lose grip and drop it into the commode.
3. Don’t play dangerous sports with your phone in your pocket
Please try to avoid playing games like football, baseball, and cricket etc. with your phone in the market. Just imagine what a fast paced ball can do when it hits your precious phone.
4. Fix a pocket for keeping your phone
I always keep my phone in my right jeans pocket. All other stuff like coins, keys, and handkerchief go into other pockets. This not only helps keep the scratch-guard scratch free, but also prevents accidental dropping of the phone when my hand reaches the pocket for fetching other stuff.
5. Don’t just place your phone anywhere
Be wary of the surroundings before keeping your phone on any surface. Do not keep it near the windows, or on narrow objects. The phone might fall off while vibrating for notifications and incoming calls.
Here is how you can protect your phone:
Even if you take the above preventive measures seriously, there might come a time when your phone will fall off of your hands, pockets, etc. You should take the following steps for protecting the phone from such falls:
Use a good quality cover
You shouldn’t think of buying an expensive poly-carbonate shell as a waste of money. In fact, if you spend a few bucks on a good case, then you would be able to use your phone worry-free.
I also wouldn’t advise you to go for some cheap silicone covers available on the street-side as they don’t offer much protection against accidental drops. Buy a double-layer case if you really want your phone to survive shocks and drops.
Some of the popular high-quality shock resistant cases are:
OtterBox Defender & Commuter series, Body Glove cases, Urban Armor Gear, Ballistic Tough and Explorer Series, etc.
Install a SCREEN-GUARD
Some cases also come with built-in scratch guards, but many including me don’t like them as they completely spoil the looks of phone.
So, the best option is to use screen-guards. You will find many kind and qualities of the scratch guard in the market, but we would advise that you pick the one offering maximum protection to the display. Zagg screenguards are one of my personal favourites.
These preventive and protective measures will keep your phone safe for most of the times, but what if you happen to drop your phone on the road only to see a truck passing over it? Well, in that case only a gadget insurance plan can save your hard-earned money.
