We love to buy smartphones with large displays these days. There was a time when a phone with just 3.5” screen size was considered the best, but then came the era of phones having their displays ranging between 4.3” – 4.7”.
And just when we thought that a 5” display is more than enough for all that you need to do on a smartphone became the beginning of a new dawn of phones with very large 5.7” to 6” display. I realy didn’t believe that people would like 6 –inchers, and they didn’t. But they we tweaked their usage style and have now migrated to phones with 5.5” displays.
Today almost all phones, especially from the Chinese brands have 5.5-inch displays. The display is such an important aspect of smartphone usage experience that we can’t do away with a smaller displays these days.
Hence, it becomes extremely important to protect that beautiful HD/Full-HD/2K display at all costs.
How To Protect Your Phone’s Display?
If you are like me and drop your phone very often then it would be better if you go with some good double layer phone cover like Otterbox, Spigen, etc. But if you very more careful and don’t drop your phone that often and are only scared about scratching its display accidentally then all you have to do is keep it away from hard materials with sharp edges.
But if you can’t afford to spend that much mental time on keeping your phone’s display scratch-free, then you should invest in a good quality tempered glass screen protector.
What Is A Tempered Glass Screen Protector?
Unlike the traditional plastic scratch guards, tempered screen guards are actually made of hardened glass and are very resistant to scratches. These are usually close to 0.5 mm in size.
Advantages Of Using Tempered Screen Guard:
- Smoothness to Use- First of all, tempered glass screen protectors not just protect your phone’s display against scratches, but also translate to a very smooth usage experience.
In case of plastic scratch guards, you might feel them to become a bit sticky or even rough to use after prolonged use, but tempered glass scratch guards, being made of glass don’t suffer from this and you would make you feel as if you were using your phone without any scratch guard at all. - Protection Against Accidental Falls- Tempered screen protectors also protect your phone’s display against accidental falls by sacrificing itself. So it might happen that your phone installed with tempered screen guard falls and you see the display shattered when you pick it back up.
Well, you don’t have to worry about that as you would notice that it was the screen guard that took the beating and not the actual LCD/LED display.
Why You Should Still Use Tempered Glass Scratch Guard With A Phone Having Gorilla Glass Display?
This is a very genuine question as it makes perfect sense. Gorilla Glass is hard enough to protect your phone’s display against scratches from everyday use (with the exception of sand), but it is only scratch-resistant and not scratch proof. So it might still get scratched, especially if you are in a proximity of an area having a lot of sand. So why take a risk?
Secondly, as you have read above, tempered glass scratch guard also protects the display against accidental falls and being made up of brittle glass, it takes up all the hit (in most of the cases) and shatters.
This might not look okay at first, but think about the price difference between tempered glass screen protector and the cost of screen replacement. And you’ll be amazed.
A Word Of Advice:
Not all screen protectors are the same. So I wouldn’t recommend you to go with the cheapest available option. I’d rather suggest you to spend some more and good a good quality tempered scratch guard.
