Dropp is a new social network/iPhone app which will let you ‘dropp’ messages and pictures based on locations for someone else to pick them up. Just like Foursquare/Gowalla but more useful.
Dropp is like leaving bread crumbs from the Hansel and Gretel story and the traditional treasure hunt combined. Only in this case, no one’s at risk. Just better things to unlock.
Oh no! not YASN. That’s short for yet another social network. Do we really need yet another social network? The answer is we need many more. After all your social isn’t necessarily my social. There will be a social for every social being out there and until we cover all the societies, we will not rest. That’s the theme anyway. While Facebook and LinkedIn scratched the surface, there is a lot of gold to be mined in the location based services.
Foursquare lets you check in and leave tips. There could be offers based on Foursquare just like what Cafe Coffee Day has introduced in Bangalore. Dropp uses the same location based service to gain useful info left by someone else. Dropp uses crowdsourcing without a specific objective but over time could become a gold standard for hyperlocal reviews and guidance.
Dropp is like someone guiding around bad neighborhoods, good coffee shops, great bargains and fantastic bird watching spots. For Foursquare I haven’t found much use. May be I’m using it the wrong way or not using as I should. Dropp seems to be nifty and useful.
If you have left the supermarket and forgot something which is important and not urgent you can dropp a text message to yourself and Dropp will remind you of that item in your next supermarket visit. If you are in a new place and someone has dropped something you can pick it up, unlock and have fun.
Dropp needs its own login name and email address. That is the most boring part. After registration, like all the apps I have seen in the last two years, it will let you login to your twitter to find friends and start dropping.
What are you waiting for? Dropp a text, dropp a picture and make it count. Grab the app here. Fun begins when more people start dropping.
