Reliance Communications is working hard to gain and retain data users. After launching its 3G Tablet, it is now launching a CDMA Android phone, Coolpad D530. CDMA users who want to jump on the Android ship but don’t want to spend big bucks now have Coolpad D530. The phone is powered by Android 2.1 (sorry folks) and is priced at Rs. 7999. There’s also a 100% cash back plan.
Specifications
Coolpad D530 sports a 3.5 inch touch screen with 480×320 pixel resolution, 2 MP camera, WiFi and Bluetooth. The phone has a 1280 mAh battery. Coolpad D530 runs a 600 MHz TI OMAP3630 processor and has 256 MB RAM. Memory on the phone can be expanded to 32 GB, though RCom website limits the upgradeability to 4GB.
Coolpad can act as a WiFi Router. Music player, video player and recorder are on board too. While RCom doesn’t list the GPS and FM radio functionality, Chinese websites listing the phone show GPS and FM features.
Other CDMA Android phones
Coolpad D530 joins the ranks of other Android CDMA phones like Samsung Galaxy i500, Motorola Milestone XT800 (Dual SIM : GSM+CDMA), Samsung Galaxy Pop and Samsung Galaxy I899.
What’s with the name?
Coolpad D530 is a Chinese manufactured phone (obviously) and is a custom made phone for China Telecom. Not sure if it is an agreement Reliance had with the vendor but Reliance could do away with the Coolpad name. For the simple reason that this phone is neither cool nor is it a pad. Given the way tablet market is going, this phone can be confused with being a tablet too.
Finally
Considering this phone is manufactured by a Chinese vendor for China Telecom, how is Reliance making sure that these phones aren’t bugged?
