Micromax Andro A60 is the cheapest Android phone available in the market. Intex has promised a cheaper version (Rs.5000) and Micromax itself will be releasing another Android phone in the sub-10K range. Andro A60 is a nice little package and true to its name of an entry-level Android phone, it delivers. Resistive touch screen on the phone is the only compliant I had, but that is only expected from a device which costs Rs. 6990. Read our first review of Andro A60 here.
Android as an operating system provides a great deal of flexibility which iOS users can only dream of. Android might not be for the faint hearted but once you get past the learning curve it is treasure trove. By spending Rs.7K, you can control the phone and are not at the whims and fancies of any corporation. Andro A60 runs Eclair and what we hear from Micromax, this is the farthest it can go.
We took the dump of the device state and found details about A60’s hardware. This can be easily achieved through a myriad of applications which does the same thing. MSI is one such app which can be downloaded from the market place.
Processor, RAM and memory
A60 has a ~170 MB RAM (172752 kb) and is powered by ARM MSM7627 processor which has max clock speed of 600 MHz

Internal memory on A60 is 430 MB with 150 MB allocated to System, 261 MB allocated to data and 20MB allocated to cache. The phone runs the zte android code base.
Manufacturer
Connecting the device via USB to a Ubuntu/Linux system and executing lsusb command gives us this output.
Micromax A60’s entry is the third line from the bottom : ONDA communications S.p.A. And the manufacturer id is 19d2. This phone is supposed to be manufactured by ZTE. Elsewhere in the world this phone is known as ZTE Penguin. Google’s Android development kit has the manufacturer codes for 15 manufacturers. ZTE has the manufacturer id as 19D2 in that list. There’s no entry for ONDA communication. Who’s the original manufacturer? How’s ONDA related to ZTE? Something which we don’t yet know.
Others : Video, Audio and OS
All the other features are decent on this phone. Watch the video below for a audio/video/OS review.
Final verdict : A60 is a good entry level Android phone which performs well on what the phone promises. Resistive touch screen is the only misgiving on this phone which is expected of a phone which costs Rs. 6990.

Hi Arun,
First of all let me mention that your blog "The Gadget Fan" gives the most relevant information on the gadgets. Before this we had to go to numerous other websites – but not anymore.
Also I must compliment you for reviewing the Android Phones along with the Micromax A60 which most reviewing sites dismiss as a low end brand and do not cover in detail.
Having said the above, there are a few things that I want to know about Micromax A60.
1) I am using Micromax Q5 Qwerty phone with dual sims. Now since Mobile Number Portability is coming nationwide, I will again retain only my Primary sim and switch to a better Single Sim phone. In the Micromax Q5, group messaging (sms) is an issue wherein the sms is not delivered to all the reciepients of the group. Also the group size is just 20 names and there are a total of 5 groups only making total no. of group sms to 100.
Now could you please give the messaging (sms) review for Micromax A60 as to
1 – how many messages can be sent at a time?
2 – how good is the groups functionality in the phone.
3 – also inform whether the google gmail contact groups can be imported and used as the messaging groups?
This is very important as the mobile service providers are providing sms at a very low price like 500 nationwide sms daily for a monthly fee of Rs. 50. Hence it becomes very important to know which phone has a good messaging system probably like nokia.
2) How is contacts synchronisation in M A60 vis a vis Gmail contacts. Is it exactly the same or becomes different.
3) Does this phone (A60) come with a PC Suite kind of a software to download messages for future reference or other activities.
