Dell is taking its smartphones seriously. It will be launching its Android phone, Dell Venue in India anytime soon. The phone is already listed on Flipkart with a price of Rs. 28499. The retail price could be higher. Dell has so far launched three Android phones, including the 5-inch high-end Dell Streak. Dell Venue is Dell’s fourth Android phone in India and looks like Dell has done its homework and priced this device just about right.
Specifications
Dell Venue joins our growing 1 GHz club. It runs a 1 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, has 512 MB RAM, 1 GB internal memory and expandable memory of 32 GB. Venue runs Android 2.2.
Dell Venue has a massive 4.1 inch AMOLED WVGA touch screen with a curved Corning Gorilla Glass. In an effort to make you replace your digital camera, Venue comes with a 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus and 4x zoom.
Dell Venue has all other connectivity options of 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, MicroUSB and A-GPS. It supports all popular audio and video format. There’s no mention of FM Radio in the spec sheet.
Where would it fit?
With a 1 GHz processor and 8 megapixel camera, Dell Venue joins the exclusive club of HTC Desire HD, HTC Mozart and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. These are the most powerful phones which are available in India. Xperia X10 has been launched quite a while ago and it runs Androi 1.6 out of the box with a RAM of 384 MB. Dell Venue is clearly a better phone than Xperia. Between HTC Desire HD and HTC Mozart, Desire HD is an Android phone and Mozart is a Windows phone.
Dell Venue vs HTC Mozart
It would be hard to compare an Android phone with a Windows phone because of the gap in their app ecosystems. Based on just hardware, Venue has a 4.1 inch screen and Mozart has a 3.7 inch screen, both fall in the same price range and the Mozart has max internal memory of 8GB but Venue can be expanded to 32 GB. Dell Venue edges out HTC Mozart on hardware and with Android it is bound to race past Mozart.
Dell Venue vs HTC Desire HD
HTC Desire HD has a 4.3 inch SLCD WVGA screen, Venue has 4.1 inch screen. That extra real estate can be useful for typing or reading. RAM on Desire HD is 768 MB which is better than Venue’s 512 MB. The price is just about comparable with each other with a 1K difference. On paper, HTC Desire HD looks like a better phone than Dell Venue. Yet there’s no denying the fact that Dell Venue is a powerful Android phone which is worth the money.

Android Development
Android powered Dell Venue looks good but its priced a little high. It would have been better if it had Android 2.3 Gingerbread instead of Android 2.2. Not sure why still new phones are coming up with old OS. Thanks for sharing.
