India’s first Android CDMA phone by Reliance!

CDMA users who are outnumbered by GSM users by a ratio of 1:3 never had a great choice of mobiles. Reliance is working hard to change that. Reliance is bringing Samsung Galaxy i500, a CDMA Android phone to India for a cost of Rs. 25000. Galaxy i500 joins the growing list of India’s Gigahertz club.

Specifications

Samsung Galaxy i500 is powered by 1GHz processor, 512 MB RAM and 5 megapixel camera with power LED flash. It has an internal memory of 2GB and comes with a 16 GB memory card. The phone can read cards up to 32 GB. The default version is Android 2.1 on the phone but it can be upgradeable to Android 2.2. Samsung Galaxy i500 has a 4-inch super AMOLED screen which is a real eye candy.

Samsung Galaxy i500 has a talk time of 300 mins and a standby time of 220 hours. It plays all popular audio and video formats. Galaxy i500 also supports HD Video, DLNA, GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi. There is no mention of FM radio on the spec sheet.

Where does it fit

If we take the three parameters Cost+1GHz processor + 5 Megapixel camera, Galaxy i500 fits in with Samsung I9000 Galaxy S and HTC Desire. HTC Desire is priced lower than Galaxy i500. HTC Desire HD is the other phone in the price range which has a better RAM and a 8 megapixel camera. It costs a good 2.5K more than Galaxy i500. I wanted to say Galaxy i500, is priced higher, but given the company it is with and given the fact that it is the first CDMA Android phone, Samsung and Reliance got the pricing just right.

Samsung Galaxy i500 is a good CDMA phone for Android fans, which is priced perfectly.
