Videocon Zeus : Fully loaded Android smart phone

Mobiles

Truth be told, every other smart phone launched in India would be powered with Android. And Google is not making any feeble attempts about it. Videocon Zeus is the latest Android phone to hit Indian shores.

Videocon has released its first Android phone called Videocon Zeus Evolve. Zeus runs Android 1.6 operating system and can be upgraded to Android 2.1 (Eclair). Zeus is a 3G phone with 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen and 5 megapixel camera. It doesn’t stop there. It is a cookie jar with  a lot of surprise cookies. Let’s dive in.

Videocon Zeus Strong points :

Price : Videocon’s press release price is 12900 and the online retail price on FlipKart is 10999. A price difference of Rs 2K, either way this phone is a steal for the punches it delivers.

Processor and Memory : Zeus is loaded with a Qualcomm’s 600 MHz processor which is double the speed of my first computer bought 10 years ago. That speed is more than enough to do anything meaningful on a mobile phone provided the apps don’t consume a lot. Speaking of apps there are more than 70,000 of them. And with the paid apps being opened to India, there is no further limit. Zeus comes with 8GB internal memory which can be expandable to 32 GB through a SD Card slot. 512 MB is the RAM on Zeus.

Media : Plays almost all formats (H.263, H.264 AVC, MPEG-4 SP). How would you feel when you cannot load a video into your iPhone because Apple said so, when the other guy is watching excellent videos on a Zen M25? Ask me. It’s not a happy feeling. This kind of reminds me of the fevikwik ad. Zeus’s music players comes with multiple format support. Videos are recorded in H.263 and MP4 formats. Zeus is powered with a 5 megapixel camera with 24 frames per second video capture.

Connectivity : Zeus is packed with all the things needed to connect and communicate. 3.5 G(Download 7.2MBPS/Upload 2MBPS), Wi-Fi, USB, GPS, Geo-tagging and Bluetooth.

Spare battery : This is my favorite. I haven’t seen any mobile maker selling a spare battery. The basic premise of a smartphone is the smartness. Who wouldn’t want to spend time with smart machine. Everyone will. Especially with more than 70000 apps on the Android market place, not to mention the social networking, games and social games, the smartphone baby needs time.

Car charger : This might be a small thing but small things matter. A cheap car charger would beVideocon Zeus Videocon Android Videocon 7500 Android phone india Android India Android available at the next traffic signal for less than Rs. 100. But it can never beat the charger from the OEM which has an in-built trust.

Nice to haves on Videocon Zeus :

FM Radio : With 8 GB internal storage, you might fill the phone with all the music you want and not need the radio. But for those times when the collection isn’t helping, mind yearns for the radio. This is a notable miss on Zeus.

Divx support : Nothing has been mentioned about the divx support. Another nice to have.

Videocon Zeus has taken care of the small things very well, along with playing the big league. A good buy if you are looking for sub-14k Android powered phone.
