Micromax, top Indian mobile handset maker, will be releasing its first Android device on October 20. The device will be a smartphone with a HVGA 320X480 touch screen running Qualcomm’s chipset. It will come with Wi-Fi and on-board GPS. In all likelihood it will be a 3G phone. The price is estimated to be under Rs. 10,000. Android 1.6 would be the OS running on the device which can later be updated to 2.1. Other specifications are not yet known.
Micromax’s release of the phone comes as a part of Google’s drive to push Android operating system on cheap hardware. Google has chosen Micromax, Spice and Videocon to launch low-cost Android devices. Videocon has launched Zues, its Android phone. Spice has 2 phones and a tablet lined up. Micromax is the last to announce the Android phone.
It would be interesting to see Micromax’s Android device, its specs and the price. Would it be nothing like anything?
