Planning to buy a smartphone in the next 2 months? You might be in luck because we got just the list you are looking for. Conventional wisdom says that the longer you wait, the better you get. But that day might never come. So if you are in a rush and don’t want to make your smartphone purchase and impulse buy, but a well thought out decision then this list will help.
This is the list of 10 hottest smartphones in the Indian market. These phones are yet to be launched or just launched phones. These are fresh as they can get. And the only due consideration given is the cost of the phone and the freshness of it.
All these phones are priced in the range of Rs. 30000 – Rs. 40000.
Nokia Lumia 800
Nokia which went into a hibernate mode has finally gotten off its burning platform and released a windows powered phone. Nokia Lumia 800 is the first Windows phone from Nokia and is speculated to be priced in the vicinity of Rs. 30,000.
Powered by Windows Mango, Lumia 800 sports a 3.7 inch AMOLED screen with 480×800 pixel resolution, 1.4 GHz Qualcomm single core processor, 512 MB RAM, 8MP camera, 16 GB memory (not expandable) and a 1450 mAh battery.
Nokia is a trusted brand which is known for its sturdiness. Windows is an ubiquitous and all too familiar operating system which is redefining itself for the mobile. A combination of Nokia and Microsoft is too compelling to pass off.
With a retina display, A5 dual core processor, 8MP camera and great improvements in graphics rendering, iPhone 4S is the best iPhone money can buy. More than the hardware, iPhone 4S is making a fame for its voice assistant software, Siri.
The cheapest iPhone 4S could cost Rs. 40000. There are problems with battery drain out and Apple has nailed it down to a software bug. Check for the battery issues to be resolved before you shell out some serious bucks.
Though I have my reservations about Siri working with Indian accent but missing the Indian context, there are people vouching for Siri’s Indian connection.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Samsung Galaxy Nexus is first Ice Cream Sandwich phone. Technically it is much like iPhone but manufactured by Google. Developed with partnership with Samsung, Samsung Galaxy Nexus provides a pure Android experience on the latest hardware.
Also Ice Cream Sandwich is the most enchanting Android OS ever. To keep Nexus a hot Android phone, Google is trying its best to delay the ICS availability for other Android phones.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus sports a 4.65 inch AMOLED HD screen with 1280×720 resolution, 1.2GHz dual core processor, 5 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front facing camera, 1 GB RAM and a 1750 mAh battery.
The price is estimated to be in the 30K range. Register here to know about the launch.
HTC Sensation XE
Ever since HTC bought Beats Audio, it is itching to launch Beats powered phones. HTC Sensation XE comes with an integrated Beats audio experience with specially designed headphones. HTC Sensation XE is a pure HTC Android phone and is one sexy beast.
HTC Sensation XE comes with 4.3 inch SLCD screen, 8MP camera, 0.3 MP front camera, and 768 MB RAM.
All it needs is an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade to stay current.
Price : Rs. 32400
Motorola Razr is the best smartphone on the planet. There is no thinner smartphone out there. Also there is no smartphone which can last longer. With just 7.1 mm thickness and a 1800 mAh battery with significant software improvements to enhance the battery life, Motorola has showed what smartphones should be like.
Called as Droid Razr in other parts of the world, Motorola Razr sports 4.3 inc Super AMOLED screen, 1.2 GHz dual core processor, 8MP rear camera, 1 GB RAM and 12.5 hours talk time on a 3G network.
Though Motorola Razr is the best out there, it can be better if it is powered by Ice Cream Sandwich. The ICS update is expected in the first part of 2012.
Razr is expected at Rs. 32000.
Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsung is throwing up something new. A phone with 5.3 inch screen. That’s huge we know. And this phone comes with Stylus too. Not excited? I know the feeling. Though you might not be excited with the prospect of a stylus, Galaxy Note has other specs which will get you excited.
1.4 GHz dual core processor, 8 MP camera, 2 MP front camera, a massive 2500 mAh battery and is powered by Android 2.3.
Samsung Galaxy Note is priced at Rs. 34500.
Caveat : If you think you can handle the phone without dropping it, give Galaxy Note a try. Don’t buy it online. Make sure you try it before you buy it.
Note : Though I have ridiculed Galaxy Note for its huge screen and the stylus, I’m beginning to see it in a new light. Not an epiphany but may be there is a place for big phones. May be phones should have this big a screen and may be tablets shouldn’t have a small screen (7-inch). A 9-10 inch tablet seems like the most ideal size to achieve tablets real purpose.
HTC Evo 3D
If you are into 3D then you should consider HTC Evo 3D. It comes with a 4.3 inch 3D LCD capacitive touch screen, two 5 Megapixel rear cameras for 3D image capture, 1.3 MP front camera, 1.2 GHz dual core processor, and is powered by Android 2.3
HTC Evo 3D has HDMI and DLNA output options. Evo 3D is priced at Rs. 35000 in India.
LG Optimus 3D
Another 3D contender to HTC Evo 3D is LG Optimus 3D. It sports a 4.3 inch full HD IPS display, two 5 MP rear cameras, and a front camera.
LG Optimus 3D comes with 1 GHz dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processor and PowerVR SGX540 graphics on a TI OMAP chipset. The LG P920 boasts of a dual channel 512 MB RAM.
LG Optimus 3D is also the first Tri-Dual architecture phone – dual core, dual memory and dual channel. That technically should increase the performance and provide a efficient power usage. Price : Rs. 35000.
Sporting a 4.7 inch display with 480×800 resolution, 1.5GHz processor, 8MP camera and 1.3 MP front camera, 512 MB RAM, and 16 GB storage, HTC Titan is a desirable Windows Phone 7 powered smartphone.
HTC Titan is a phone on diet with its 9.8 mm thickness. The price isn’t out yet but we expect this to be in the 30K range.
Blackberry Bold 9900
This is the lone Blackberry phone on the list. Blackberry Bold 9900 comes with Blackberry 7 OS, 2.8 inch touch screen, the famous Blackberry keypad, 1.2. GHz processor, 768 MB RAM and 5 MP camera.
Blackberry Bold 9900 is available for Rs. 33000.
This list is a bouquet. All the four dominant operating systems – Android, iOS, Blackberry and Windows are covered. Also covered are the top manufacturers – Samsung, HTC, Nokia, LG and Apple. Picking a smartphone should be easy now.
My favorites from the list : Motorola Razr, Nokia Lumia 800, iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I do have a thing for Samsung Galaxy Note though.
